“What good is it, my brothers, if a
man claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save him? Suppose a
brother or sister is without clothes and daily food. If one of you says to him,
‘Go, I wish you well; keep warm and well fed,’ but does nothing about his
physical needs, what good is it? In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not
accompanied by action, is dead.”
“Likewise every good tree bears good
fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a
bad tree cannot bear good fruit…Thus by their fruit you will recognize them.”
Good deeds do not get us into heaven.
However, if we truly have faith we will demonstrate our faith through our
deeds. God’s love fills us up so much that if we truly have faith, it will
overflow into every part of our lives. We will be known by our fruit. If we
claim to have faith, but that faith is not being reflected in our lives, we are
no different than those who do not claim to know the Lord. Faith without action
is dead –it accomplishes no purpose.
